Melzi awarded Technology Breakthrough Designation for the Melzi Sharps Finder with
Premier, Inc.

Reno, NV – December 5 th , 2024 – Melzi Surgical (“Melzi” or the “Company”) announced today it has been awarded a national group purchasing agreement for the Melzi Sharps Finder with Premier, Inc. in the contract category of Surgical Sponge Detection Systems. Effective November 15th , 2024, the new agreement allows Premier members, at their discretion, to take advantage of the special pricing and terms pre-negotiated by Premier for the Melzi Sharps Finer, which is a device to help OR team to search for missing sharps inside the patient’s body. Premier offers Breakthrough Technology designations to innovations that offer a major advantage in terms of patient safety, clinical outcomes and operational efficiencies.

The Melzi Sharps Finder has been FDA-registered and listed and used by many hospitals since 2022. It is a sterile, single use device that comes in two sizes for open surgery and minimally invasive surgery. It can detect metal objects that are not usually visible with X-rays. The Melzi Sharps Finder helps the OR team manage miscount situations efficiently and effectively, saving OR time, minimizing the use of the X-ray, and avoiding a potential retained surgical sharp event or litigation risk. An OR Supervisor from a Pennsylvania medical center recently commented, “We find that calling in X-ray only helps when the object is larger, yet this is not always the case.
